Friday night was first night, but it didn't show. Apart from a slight technical hitch!
The music quiz got everybody into the right mood to enjoy themselves and it was surprising how much we didn't know! This started off the evening well and there was lots of banter about, excellent when audience participation is required. Well done Ian once again.
At half time everyone enjoyed the meal, which was served at the table. Very efficiently if I may say so.
The second half, of songs and sketches lived up to expectations and could have gone on longer for my money. The content and quality of such material was first class and could well have stood on it's own and provided the whole evening’s entertainment. ( A note for next year)
If I have a criticism it was this, be it first night nerves or a haste to leave the stage, the punch lines were often hurried, mumbled or whispered and therefore missed by some of us who had to say " What did he say?"
A good time was had by all — and we hope the audience enjoyed it too. BUT there was a big black cloud hanging over this production right up to the last minute. A week before opening we were looking at a loss of £10 and as this was a fundraiser, serious consideration was given to calling the whole thing off. Only a last minute sales drive by a number of members (mostly the cast) saved the show and in the end we had almost sixty 'punters' each night. So a HUGE plea — PLEASE don't leave it to the last minute to book for any of our shows as it causes a lot of unnecessary worry and last minute ringing round/mailing etc. Thank you to all those who did come and to those who dragged family and (possibly former) friends along. I'm really sorry that we made you learn Swahili. Anyone who wasn't there will just have to ask someone who was if you want to know what happened.
